How to Make a Collage

What you need to make a collage:

  1. Paper materials (magazines, postcards, pictures, newspapers, etc.)

  2. Sicssors

  3. Gluestick

  4. A surface to glue the images to (this can be printer paper, cardboard, a stretched canvas). For more information, read this article.

Where to find materials:

  1. Look around your space; are there old magazines or newspapers that you’re not using? They can become a part of a collage. Cut up cardboard boxes to use as a foundation for the collage (called a substrate).

  2. You can buy vintage magazines, pictures, and postcards on websites likeeBay, Etsy, or Facebook Marketplace. You can visit your local Goodwill or thrift Store for old books, magazines, and pictures. Don’t know a local thrift store? Look up thrift stores near you in the National Thrift Store Directory.

  3. You can buy canvas, scissors, and glue sticks from Michaels or from specialty art supply stores.
